Grandmother Doreen Spence is a Cree Elder, originating from the Goodfish Lake Reserve. An Indigenous rights activist, Doreen was one of the first Indigenous women in Canada to obtain a practical nursing certificate. Her activities as an activist, nurse, educator, and expert in traditional knowledge are recognized nationally and internationally.
